Fibreglass resin, weirs and fittings for pool repairs

The parts in this department hold the rest of the system together. A cracked weir, a leaking aimflow or a perished valve seal can lose water quietly for months, and on the clay soils common around Centurion a slow leak can wash out the ground behind the shell and lead to a much bigger repair.

For fibreglass pools and patch repairs, Scott Bader polyester resins and topcoats are trade materials. Resin laid with glass mat rebuilds a damaged area, and a white, blue or clear topcoat seals it against the water. The surface must be dry, sanded and clean of chalky residue, and resin cures much faster in a Highveld summer, so mix small batches and work in the shade or early in the morning.

Marbelite and plaster finishes eventually roughen, stain and fade, especially along the waterline where hard water leaves a band of calcium. Small patches can be repaired, but a pool with widespread rough, hollow-sounding or flaking plaster should be assessed for resurfacing rather than patched again.
