Estate living and the pool that comes with it
Most Midstream homes were built as part of a planned estate, and the pool was usually built with the house. Many owners inherited the pool with the house and rarely think about it, until the cleaner stops or the water goes cloudy.
Estate gardens are smaller and more manicured than the big plots in older suburbs, so leaf litter is rarely the main battle. The work here is less about rescuing a neglected pool and more about routine: balanced water every week, equipment that keeps running, and a small fault spotted before it turns into an expensive one.
Getting through the gate: HOA rules and service vehicles
Every Midstream estate controls who comes in. Before our first visit, expect to register Crystal Reef with your home owners' association or estate office as your pool contractor, or list us as an expected visitor, and to send us the gate procedure: which entrance contractors use, whether the vehicle must be booked in, and what security asks to see at the boom.
Estates also limit contractor working hours and where a service vehicle may park, and some have rules about where pool water may be drained during an acid wash or sand change. Weekly visits settle on a fixed day that security soon recognises; for a once-off job, a message the day before with your stand number and access details means less time at the boom and more time on the pool.
Heat pumps, salt chlorinators and robotic cleaners
Newer pools come with newer equipment, and Midstream has plenty of it. Heat pumps stretch the swimming season on a pool that would otherwise be cold from autumn to spring. Salt chlorinators make chlorine from dissolved salt so that nobody has to dose by hand. Robotic cleaners carry their own motor and filter instead of relying on the pool pump.
A salt chlorinator's cell gathers scale and gradually loses output; a cell clean and inspection is R1,299. A heat pump needs clean water, steady flow and a pump that runs when the timer says it should. A robotic cleaner needs its filter emptied and its cable kept free of twists. A weekly visit covers all three. If you are adding a heat pump, we supply it through our online shop and install it, sized to your pool and to whether it is covered at night.
Highveld water in a newer pool
Municipal water on the Highveld is hard, and hard water leaves calcium behind. In a salt pool it shows first on the chlorinator cell, then as a white line along the waterline tiles. In any pool it nudges the pH upwards over time, and chlorine works less well at a high pH, so the water can look perfect for weeks and then go hazy or green with little warning.
Summer storms add their own trouble: rain dilutes the chlorine and a power cut can leave a pump timer running on the wrong schedule. After a storm, confirm the pump is running, clear the baskets and test the water. Scale on the waterline is removed as a separate job, R800 for tile and coping cleaning.
Staying ahead instead of catching up
A pool in good condition costs less to keep that way than to bring back once it has turned. The difference is consistency: the same tests every week, chemicals added in small amounts instead of large corrections, and the filter backwashed before the pressure climbs.
Our weekly plans are built around exactly that: R950 monthly for a pool of 30,000 litres or less, R1,199 for a medium pool and R1,499 above 50,000 litres, with the volume confirmed on the first visit. Repairs are quoted in writing before any work starts. A call-out to inspect or diagnose is R650. Deducted from your quote when you accept it.
Close to our Die Hoewes office
Midstream is one of the nearest parts of our service area, and shorter drives keep the cost of each visit down. Timing still depends on the work involved and what is already booked, so the date is agreed with you when booking.
To start, send your estate name, a picture of the water and one of the pump and filter on WhatsApp (081 577 5051). That is generally enough to say which plan or service suits you before anyone signs in at the gate.

Pool questions from Midstream
Do you service pools inside Midstream Estate?
Yes, and in Midstream Hill, Midstream Ridge, Midstream Meadows and Midfield Estate. Register us with your HOA or estate office as your pool contractor before the first visit, and share the gate procedure when booking.
What does our estate need from you before work starts?
That depends on the estate. Tell us what your HOA or estate office asks for, such as company details, vehicle registration or the names of whoever will be on site, and we will supply it before the visit.
Can you service our salt chlorinator?
Yes. A cell clean and inspection is R1,299. Hard water scales the cell over time, which lowers how much chlorine it makes, and cleaning brings the output back if the cell is otherwise sound.
Do you install heat pumps in Midstream?
Yes. Heat pumps are sold through our online shop and installed once your payment has cleared. Sizing depends on the pool volume, how exposed it is and whether it is covered at night, so send us those details first.
Our robotic cleaner has stopped picking up dirt. What should we check?
Empty and rinse its filter, check the brushes and tracks for wear, and untwist the cable. If it still struggles, mention it on our next visit and we will check whether the problem is the cleaner or the water.
How much is delivery to Midstream?
Either R350 or R450, depending on the road distance from our office to your address. The checkout measures it for you.
