Mature gardens and the leaf problem
Walk down almost any street in Groenkloof, Muckleneuk, Waterkloof or the Moot and you will see why pools here fill up with leaves. Established jacarandas, oaks, planes and indigenous trees overhang pools that were built long before anyone thought about which way the leaves would fall. Leaves sink, rot, stain the surface and feed algae. They also block weir and pump baskets, which starves the pump and cuts filtration.
For these pools, a weekly service matters more than usual, especially in autumn. A leaf net or a solar blanket on a roller makes a real difference between visits, and a suction or robotic cleaner that can handle leaves is worth the money. Pools that have been left under trees for a season are the ones that most often need a deep clean or an acid wash to remove tannin staining.
Warmer than Johannesburg, and what that means for your water
Pretoria sits lower than Johannesburg and runs noticeably warmer through summer. Warm water and strong sun use chlorine up faster, and algae grows faster in warm water, so a Pretoria pool can drift from clear to cloudy in less time than the same pool would on the ridge in Johannesburg. It also means a longer natural swimming season, which is good news if you do not want to heat your pool.
In practice, Pretoria pools need their chlorine and pH checked often in summer and their pump run-time kept up, particularly through load-shedding. If you are topping up chlorine every few days and still fighting a hazy pool, the filter is the next thing to look at.
Older equipment in the Moot and Pretoria North
In Villieria, Queenswood, Rietondale, Capital Park and further north in Wonderboom, Annlin and Sinoville, it is common to find equipment that has done long service: pumps rewound more than once, filters with sand that has never been changed, and multiport valves leaking steadily to waste. None of that is a reason to rip everything out. Bearings, seals, gaskets and sand can be replaced for far less than new equipment, and we will always say which parts are worth keeping.
Where a pump or filter really has reached the end, we size its replacement to the pool instead of simply matching the old label. Older pools were often fitted with whatever pump was available at the time, and a correctly sized pump can filter better and run for fewer hours.
Old plumbing and disappearing water
Decades-old pools also mean decades-old pipes. Roots from those big trees find their way into joints, paving laid over the pipe runs has settled, and weirs set into the shell long ago can pull away as the ground moves. If you find yourself topping the pool up with a hosepipe every few days, do the bucket test before assuming it is the heat.
When the pool is losing clearly more than a bucket beside it, leak detection finds where the water is going before anyone lifts a paving stone. On older properties that usually saves far more in disruption than it costs.
Getting to you from Centurion
The southern Pretoria suburbs — Valhalla, Erasmusrand, Monument Park, Groenkloof — are close to our Centurion office. The Moot and the northern suburbs mean a drive through or around the city, so they take longer to reach than the map suggests. We try to group Pretoria visits by area to keep travel sensible for everyone.
Shop orders in Pretoria, and why not the CBD
Online-shop orders are delivered from Centurion and priced by road distance. The southern suburbs usually measure into the R450 or R550 bands; Pretoria North and the northern suburbs can measure further. We do not deliver into the Pretoria CBD itself, even though it is well within distance. If you are based in the city centre, you can collect from us in Centurion instead, or WhatsApp 081 577 5051 and we will try to arrange something.

Pool questions from Pretoria
Do you service pools in Pretoria North and the Moot?
Yes, including Villieria, Queenswood, Rietondale, Capital Park, Wonderboom, Annlin and Sinoville. Visits there are grouped by area where we can, to keep travel reasonable.
Why does my Pretoria pool go cloudy so quickly in summer?
Pretoria is warmer than Johannesburg, so chlorine is used up faster and algae grows faster. Check chlorine and pH often in summer and keep the pump running its full hours.
Is it worth repairing my old pool pump?
Often, yes. Bearings, seals and capacitors are standard parts. A pump repair or service is R850, with parts quoted before fitting.
Can you deliver pool equipment to Pretoria CBD?
No, the online shop does not deliver into the CBD. You can collect from our Centurion office by arrangement, or WhatsApp us to discuss other options.
How do I stop leaves filling my pool?
A leaf net or a solar blanket on a roller between visits, a cleaner that can handle leaves, and emptying the baskets after windy days. Weekly service keeps on top of the rest.
Do you cover Menlo Park, Lynnwood and Faerie Glen?
Yes. Those eastern suburbs are on our Pretoria East page, which covers the estates and routes on that side of the city.
