Newer estates, compact pools
In Waterfall, Carlswald, Noordwyk, Summerset and the Kyalami estates, you are more likely to find a newer house with a smaller, well-built pool and a neat equipment area than a large family pool in a big garden. Smaller pools are easier to keep, but they are also less forgiving: fewer litres means the chemistry swings faster after a storm or a busy weekend, and a few days without chlorine can turn one quicker than you might expect.
The small weekly plan, R950 a month for pools up to 30,000 litres, fits many of these homes. Newer equipment also means warranties — keep your receipts and manuals, and let us know what is still under warranty before we touch it.
Contractor rules in Waterfall and Kyalami
The large Midrand estates run tight access control. Waterfall, the Kyalami estates and the Blue Hills developments each have their own contractor procedures. Before the first visit, register us as your pool contractor with the estate or HOA, and check whether vehicles need to be booked in and what hours contractors may work.
On a weekly plan this settles into routine quickly: a regular day, a regular vehicle, and the gate knows to expect us. For a once-off job, a message the day before with the unit number and access details saves a long wait at the boom.
Glen Austin, Blue Hills and the smallholdings
The agricultural holdings in Glen Austin, Blue Hills AH and Randjesfontein are a different world from the estates a few kilometres away. Pools there are often older and larger, gardens are big, and top-up water frequently comes from a borehole. Borehole water can carry iron and other metals that stain the pool and discolour the water when chlorine is added.
Big gardens mean big leaf loads and more dust on windy days, which is hard on filters. If your pool is always a little dull and the pressure gauge climbs soon after backwashing, a sand change is likely due. Sand changes are priced by your filter's bag count, from R1,450.
Tight plant rooms and pump boxes
Newer townhouses and cluster homes often tuck the pump and filter into a narrow side passage or a small brick enclosure. That keeps the garden tidy, but it is hard on the equipment. A pump in a closed box with no airflow runs hot, and heat shortens the life of bearings and capacitors. Enclosures that flood in a storm put the motor at risk too.
Leave the enclosure ventilated, keep the drain around the pump clear, and make sure there is space to open the pump lid and turn the multiport valve without dismantling anything. If your equipment is squeezed in so tightly that servicing means moving a wall, tell us before the visit so we come prepared.
Storm season in Midrand
Midrand gets the full force of Highveld summer storms, sometimes with hail and strong gusts. After a storm, pools are full of leaves, grit and diluted water, and in the smaller estate pools the chlorine can drop to nothing within a day. Empty the baskets, keep the pump running, and add chlorine as soon as the storm has passed.
Power cuts during storms and load-shedding knock pool timers off their schedules. After an outage, check that the timer shows the right time and that the pump actually starts when it should. A pump that has silently stopped running is a common reason for a pool to go green between visits.

Pool questions from Midrand
Do you service pools inside Waterfall Estate?
Yes. Register us as your contractor with the estate before the first visit, and let us know the access procedure and any restrictions on working hours.
My Midrand townhouse has a small pool. Which plan is right?
The small weekly plan, R950 a month, covers pools up to 30,000 litres. We confirm the size on the first visit.
Why does my small pool turn green so fast after a storm?
Fewer litres means less chlorine to start with, and storm water dilutes it quickly. Empty the baskets, run the pump and add chlorine as soon as the storm has passed.
Can you deliver a pump or heat pump to Midrand?
Yes. Most Midrand addresses are in our R450 delivery band, measured by road from Centurion, and we can fit what we deliver.
Our smallholding pool is on borehole water and stains. What can we do?
Treat the metals with a sequestrant before they stain, and tell us the pool is on borehole water. Existing stains may need an acid wash once the source is controlled.
Will you work on equipment still under warranty?
Tell us first. Work by anyone other than the supplier can affect some warranties, so we check before opening a unit that is still covered.
